Who We Are
The Ostomy Association of the Minneapolis Area (OAMA) is a safe place for people with ostomy and diversional challenges.
The United Ostomy Associations of America, Inc. (UOAA) is a national network for bowel and urinary diversion support groups in the United States. Its goal is to provide a nonprofit association that will serve to unify and strengthen its member support groups, which are organized for the benefit of people who have, or will have intestinal or urinary diversions and their caregivers.
How We Support
At Minneapolis UOAA we have “rap sessions” where people bring out their questions and we talk about whatever issues they are having with their ostomy or diversion.
We also have a lot of laughs and honest conversations mixed in with support for the caregivers, family and friends that occasionally come along. Some topics might be simply how to travel with an ostomy, how to tell your children you have an ostomy, and you can come to listen without feeling you must talk. We hope you’ll join us soon.
Learn More About Becoming an OAMA Member
I have been a member for over 10 years. Whenever I attend a meeting, I feel supported and cared about. I can ask any question without being judged and have learned so much. The information I have received, whether it’s been through group discussions or a health professional speaking, has been invaluable to me as an ostomate.
When I walked into the room of smiling, laughing people. I couldn’t tell who had the ostomy and who didn’t. When they started talking, I didn’t feel so special anymore… in a good way.
